The Seat of the SoulMy friend Amy did a piece of work recently called 21 grams, inspired by the notion that the soul has weight - 21 grams in fact. I've been preoccupied with that other notion, the seat of the soul. Where is it, can science identify it and measure it? And if it can't is that proof it doesn't exist? Well I know what I think. How about you?
I love this. Very intriguing image and concept. I'm afraid I don't know what my soul weighs. Never took it out to play with it... too afraid I might lose it. Nothing worse than losing your soul! Great elements in this piece, Fran.

I don't really believe in souls, In something unchangable, but in a way I do, the way people say 'that's got soul' but anyway, like I said, I love this because I'm loving the whole of the anatomy thing,and my copy of gray's particularly.....

ReplyDeleteI believe in the existence of the soul and it may very well weigh 21 grams and have a seat in some specific area of our bodies. I suspect that science is too blunt a tool to find it however. And that's as it should be.

Oh this piece really speaks to me Fran - so involved. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteThe debate will be on and on forever. Does a soul exist? Does it continue to exist after death? Is it material? To me, a sould is a field at which our chemical reactions occur. We're also mostly empty space considering that majority of atom's "area" consists of massless electrons, and a little invisible nucleus (where the mass is). Oops sorry your post triggered my favorite topic :) Nice work!
