Happy New Year and WIP

A very happy new year to all my friends in blogland! Hope everyone has a prosperous - in all senses of the word - 2009.

I haven't been posting much art recently and that's because I've been in a bit of a slump, which is usually brought on by too many ideas oddly enough. Sometimes I get so many creative 'must do' notions running round in my head that I get paralysed with indecision over where to start and what to do first, so I end up doing nothing at all. It is starting to pass now (I hope!) and I just began a new drawing yesterday as you can see.

Well you know how fascinated I am by architecture and I've been wanting to draw this house for a while. It's called Troldhaugen and was the residence of the composer Edvard Grieg in Bergen in Norway. I was thinking I might do
some notecards with this line drawing on maybe, actually I rather like the graphic quality of it so I'm undecided as yet about whether to add paint or more ink. Hmmmm.

Happy new year, Fran...I know what you mean about too many ideas creating a slump...happens to me too. The house is beautiful though! Really nice!

  2. I used to love to draw architechture and always find myself drawn to certain structures. What a great way to get out of a slump. I understand how you feel completely. Sometimes my head is in such awhirl of ideas I cant think straight. A lot of times I find if I put them down on paper in list for it helps. I have a notebook that I put little sketches of my ideas in to keep track of them. ONce they are in order I can pick and chose from my different ideas....unfortunately this doesnt always work. Good luck with the drawing!

  4. Hang in there! I know what you mean about being stifled by an avalanche of ideas... its just like that, isn't it?: they sort of pile onto you and you get stuck under them... not wanting to abandon any particular one; wishing you could do them all NOW but your arms can only hold so much at one time. *sigh*
This always happens to me at the beginning of a new year... "what to work on?"
Just remember: there's no wrong decision, and its up to you to choose!
    ...I keep telling myself that!
